November 24,2024 The Meaning of Thanksgiving and Real Family Traditions >Thanksgiving Day, annual national holiday in the United States and Canada celebrating the harvest and other blessings of the past year. Americans generally believe that their Thanksgiving is modeled on a 1621 harvest feast shared by the English colonists (Pilgrims) of Plymouth and the Wampanoag people.Thanksgiving is a holiday that celebrates gratitude for the good things in life, and is celebrated by gathering with family and friends to share a meal. More specifically, after an unidentified tribe of Native people welcomed Pilgrims to America – which was their land > THE Native American Indians Land – they taught them how to live and care .It's important to know that for many Native Americans, Thanksgiving is a day of mourning and protest since it commemorates the arrival of settlers in North America and the centuries of oppression and genocide that followed. According to Strong's definitions, the Hebrew word thanksgiving is tรดwdรขh (to-daw') and it means confession, praise, and offering. When we give thanks in the truest sense of the biblical word, we offer God our praises and acknowledge to Him that He is the Giver of all good gifts.Thanksgiving is a chance for families to gather together and enjoy being with one another. But Thanksgiving can also be a meaningful time to reflect on our blessings and remember how God has been faithful in our lives. Many families have special Thanksgiving traditions they use to show gratitude to God and each other.
